With Autumn beginning to find its stride, there’s a creeping inclination to stay (even more!) indoors. The days are getting shorter, and the burgeoning cool keeps us back a little from wading outdoors in search of wonder. Art perhaps picks up nature’s slack; a reserve of warmth, energy, and intrigue, it can keep us dazzled without ever leaving the house and we’re conscious of this at NewBloodArt, more than ever at the moment, which is why our current picks – each uniquely different – share a sense of boldness and artistic focus.
For example, take Vikram Kushwah’s ‘Friends in Red Sweaters’ – a photograph teeming with style, narrative, and the staunch joy of friendship (this piece was selected for the Taylor Wessing photographic Portrait Prize 2019 at the National Gallery). Similarly, Ella Squirrel’s paintings also muse on the what makes us ‘ourselves’; ‘The Unfinished Self’ poignantly points out the necessity of incompleteness and loose ends, both with life and the paintbrush. Elsewhere, Charlotte Serena Johnston and Ava Haggas bring us lush landscapes, dreamy and exotic in their raging pinks and oranges. Then there’s Carlos San Millan’s ‘Reflection Landscape #5’ which takes a slightly different route, using impasto paint and cool tones to render an evocative dusk.
And if it’s the moon you want – David OM brings it to you in luminous acrylic. Or perhaps you’re missing a fresh bouquet, in which case, Glib Franko’s wild, wild flower paintings make for an essential dose of sensuality. There is so much that can be said, and so many historical influences that can be combed out – we’ll leave it up to you to discover during the increasingly rainy days..
