Is it just me? Or does it feel ever so slightly like spring might be on the way … January stays January and still, something has turned.
The light has shifted. Not brighter exactly – thinner, cleaner maybe. The air is holding a little more space. Like there’s a new beginning on the way.
And you can’t have any beginning without an ending. Speaking of which, there are exciting times ahead for one of our Masters artists, Lindsay Mapes – and just three days, from now until the 25th, to invest in this bold and brilliant body of work.
It feels good and it hurts a little. When an artist reaches this moment, it means their time has come. It also marks the end of a meaningful collaboration – a practical, ongoing working relationship: showing the work, speaking about it, returning to it over time, holding it within the gallery.
There is loss and pride side by side.
Ten years of serious work. Visibility. Prizes. Institutions. Programmes. And repeated signalling. We have drawn attention to Lindsay’s work again and again.
The gallery has been saying her name for years. Spotlighted her. Returned to her. Stayed with the work as it gathered weight.
What’s happening now is simple: the wider field has caught up. There are books and collaborations ahead that can’t yet be named.
Consider this your signal.
It’s time to buy the work.
