This year Orlanda Broom has been super busy completing a major outsized commission (4m x 4m) – a painting entitled ‘Manna Hata’, (the old name for Manhattan) specially commissioned for the lobby of the Four Seasons Hotel in New York.
You can view Orlanda discussing this piece in this video.
The Four Seasons have a long tradition of commissioning exciting contemporary artists – in the late 1950’s Mark Rothko was commissioned to paint a series of murals for the fashionable Four Seasons restaurant – a pivotal period in his career – making paintings that were darker in mood than previous work, his palette shifting to maroon, dark red and black.
