Natalie Chapman’s work has reached a new level of recognition since being invited to show solo at the Museum of Modern Art in Wales in 2021 – her 9th solo show.
We previously have tipped Natalie for investment, following her listing for the 2021 Self-Portrait Prize that recognised her unique contribution to contemporary painting in this genre.
Director Sarah on this highlight of Natalie’s career says:
It’s a remarkable achievement for any artist to be invited to hold a solo show at MOMA Wales. But to be invited just 5 years after graduating – and for this solo show to be running alongside a companion group show, of some of the most notable and esteemed Welsh artists – is testament to how seriously the art world is taking Natalie Chapman.
Awards given to Natalie include: 2021 Long listed for Ruth Borchard Self Portrait award; 2019 MOMA Wales Prize winner; 2018 Orielcrick prize winner; 2017 Guardian list of artists to look out for.
With such a definitive aesthetic being increasing recognized, now is a good time to invest in this artist capturing the lives of her contemporary subjects with such discernment and brilliant use of color.
The use of dark outlines gives the figures an exactness and transforms their relationship to the space they occupy. The imagery captivating and somewhat unnerving through the embroilment of tenderness and tension, rising from the picture plane in a flurry of hot pinks and stark blues.
