I’ve long admired the work of Richard Brocken and was sorry to miss the opportunity to purchase one of his Water photographs. I recently purchased Rain |Rān| and collected it from the framers yesterday.
My new piece is beautiful, it’s as though she is actually in the room. I was slightly hesitant about investing in this piece – concerned that maybe the image would be a little haunting or heavy because of the prominence of black, but in fact it brings light and life into my home and I’m delighted with it. The raindrops on the glass and the way they seem to echo the contours of her face remind me of an Old Master, a Vermeer perhaps – it’s breathtaking actually, the images on the website don’t do her justice. She is particularly interesting to view now framed – behind glass, echoing the subject itself – of a girl seen through a car window.
