Original mixed media painting in oil and acrylic on canvas.

"I have painted bonsai trees since living in Vietnam, in 2006, where I had them on my balcony. I find the idea of them intriguing - a way of taming and manipulating nature to achieve something unnatural, contradicting, yet perfect. I have often paired them with wallpaper and children, as in this one. To me it compares and contrasts the way children are brought up to conform. On a more simply aesthetic note, the trees are visually interesting to paint and look at; contorted and contained."

Pettersson’s work bridges fine art and graphic design, and habitually explores how what is personal and innermost is shaped by public notions, and public instruments, of sentiment. Her most recent works are inspired by 50s children’s’ book illustrations, and are jerked into modernity with compelling results. Pettersson’s work is widely sought after; her paintings are held in private collections in the UK, Sweden, Holland, France, USA, Vietnam, Australia and Hong Kong.
