The Perfect Size Artwork?

I’ve been thinking about how there’s something undoubtedly appealing about a moderately sized work: it doesn’t overwhelm a space, whilst still making an impact. Neither miniature nor large-scale, the work doesn’t set demands: not needing to be the hero of your room, or seen really close up, instead it attunes to an interior space in a more sensitive way which larger and smaller works can’t so easily accomplish.

At a certain mid-scale, say between 60cm – 90cm, the work doesn’t usually dominate a room but is still a notable presence. Instead of taking centre-stage in your visual field it integrates into your space, becoming more intrinsically a part of the environment. These works are also more mobile between walls: travelling well into new spaces, new homes and re-curations of collections.

See below a selection of works currently available that I think are working particularly well in mid-scale.
