People in Paint

In these works of people, you’ll find introspection, psychedelia, monumental figures, vulnerable ones, groups at table (at séances and bars) and couples in a world of their own.

Julia Blackshaw’s ‘Reader’ is compositionally centered: emanating a sense of equilibrium in the midst of a meditative pursuit.

Alternatively, Sarah Shaw’s complex rendering of paint amounts to the figure of a living being in flux. More than a discernible person or fixed personality, an internal state is being transmitted through a restless, instinctual application of pigment. In this way, her latest work recalls the mutating emotional states of Francis Bacon.

You’ll also see how: Isaac Aldridge works to the tune of his own style in the verdant collages of his latest works; Laura Gaiger’s figures begin to blur into anonymity in the crowd; and Katherine Lloyd shows an archetypal, metamorphic interrelation between wolf and human.
