Living in Colour

When asked to explain his artistic choices, famously David Hockney once replied: “I prefer living in colour”. His paintings make this obvious, yet the simple response is also an equally potent reminder that ‘living in colour’ is open to everyone, they just need to choose it.

Colour permeates all aspects of our lives. It shapes how we perceive the world, it’s an essential part of our identity, and it benefits our health and mind. The colour institution that is Pantone certainly know this, recently revealing their new ‘Colour of the Year’, as part of a long tradition of predicting what colours will be most influential. For 2021 they’ve chosen two – a sort of pebble grey and a buttercup yellow – as “a message of happiness supported by fortitude”.

While we don’t predict what colours will influence the world, we can pave a humble pathway for those looking to live in a bit more colour.. Whatever your mood, the following colourful selections are utterly transportive, acting as both the medicine and the spoonful of sugar.
