New Blood Art Commentary

Narrative winds itself intuitively through the work of Gabrielle Moore. Using an array of found images Moore creates scenes of suspected malice, presumed grief or even comical mystery. The diversity of Moore’s scope certainly creates a thought provoking experience. We are unable to grasp the situation but are given a surreal glimpse at a scene we inevitably cannot interpret. The pieces pay homage to our own experiences of the world around us and the connections we make with certain symbols. As such these pieces can be interpreted, and explained in numerous approaches giving them each a seemingly multidimensional crux.

Artist Statement

I work with multiple different supports for my paintings playing with the way paint interacts with an untraditional surface. Much of my landscape based work focuses on a pairing down of the marks to recreate the emotion of the moment,  these are often created in my studio from quick sketches made on hikes.

My other key interest in my practice is a theatrical narrative or emerging story within an image. I am interested in imagery that rests between the comical and unnerving, the film-like and the real. Often this includes my interest in true crime and occultist imagery and the poignancy and increased narrative they acquire through painting. However some of my work of travel and people from my own life also leans over into this category.
