Narrative winds itself intuitively through the work of Gabrielle Moore. Using an array of found images Moore creates scenes of suspected malice, presumed grief or even comical mystery. The diversity of Moore’s scope certainly creates a thought provoking experience. We are unable to grasp the situation but are given a surreal glimpse at a scene we inevitably cannot interpret. The pieces pay homage to our own experiences of the world around us and the connections we make with certain symbols. As such these pieces can be interpreted, and explained in numerous approaches giving them each a seemingly multidimensional crux.
The Narrative in a singular image holds significance within my work. Using a mixture of domestic photographs and collage as a starting point; I look for images that rest somewhere between the joyful /comical, and the unnerving. My Paintings often play with scale and perspective to create dreamlike scenes which use symbolism in a hope to form a connection with the viewer. The pieces are personal, reflecting my thoughts or feelings at the time, yet can be interpreted in numerous ways according to the audience’s own experiences. Working on different plastics and metals enhances the disjointed effect of the collaged scenes. This creates surreal worlds where you are made constantly aware of the two dimensional surface and your own relation to the object.
