New Artist: Sarah Rachael Cleary

‘Painting for me is a very personal outlet for an unspoken language, one that can translate my emotions to a tangible substance. I am inspired by the way Impressionists capture vitality and how Netherlandic flower painting creates contrasts between what is dark; dead, and bright; alive. My recent work has sought to use the translucent properties of paint and glazing mediums to build up layers within the painting of contrasting colours and tones to reflect my conflicting state of mind. Circles are a natural choice for me, they are organic and can be rotated in a way that allows the energy when I am painting to consistently move with them. Although my University studies have allowed for me to open up as an artist in terms of abstraction and deconstructing reality, I continue to enjoy working figuratively too.’
