Sophie Baker’s paintings track the internal, felt dimension of landscape - holding close to the visual field while letting something stranger press through. Paths appear, then blur. Figures are latent or occluded. A spider’s web reads as architectural, devotional. The eye keeps circling. Visually, the works seem to resist forward motion: no clear vanishing point, no directional pull - an evocative felt sense of recursive presence.
