There are endless reasons to buy art that is unframed. It can be more affordable, easy to transport, more versatile. Plus an unframed work has endless potential to adapt to your taste and space.
Sometimes, however, we just don’t have the time, headspace or vision to frame a piece of art in the way that it deserves. It can also be a challenge to find a framer that understands your vision, or what you’d like to draw out of the work - especially for those who live outwith large city hubs.
A frame can offer protection to a piece that is fragile. It can also help harmonise it with the room and other pieces of art, creating a unifying space. Sometimes the frame can even be part of the concept of the work itself. Multiple award nominated artist Damaris Athene tells us about her work Latent_Space.001:
