New Blood Art Commentary

Magdalena Kapron, a mixed-media artist, navigates her creative practice between Torun, Poland, and Cardiff, Wales. Her artistic journey commenced at the age of fourteen within one of Poland's select art high schools, culminating in a Master's degree in Product Design from the University of Fine Arts in Poznań. Kapron's work spans illustration, printmaking, textiles, and sculpture, reflecting a profound engagement with diverse subjects and mediums.

Her innovative approach involves painting directly onto the screen's mesh, producing monotypes that elegantly traverse the realms of painting and printmaking. Central to her work is an exploration of nature, with a particular emphasis on the ephemeral and transformative beauty of flowers, mirroring the human condition. Her painting technique is notably physical, marked by swift, instinctive, and palpable brush strokes, imbuing her works with a dynamic and visceral quality.

Artist Statement

Flowers are one of my primary subjects. Immersion into my surroundings, often resulting from plein air studies, translates into monoprints that showcase nature in its raw, untouched glory.

Painting directly onto the screen mesh allows me to blur the lines between painting and print. Through dynamic brushstrokes, I create a unique texture of dense colour, sometimes almost translucent, often testing the boundaries between colour, form and texture.

My monotypes reflect emotional responses to the light, mood, and colour of certain landscapes and experiences.
