New Blood Art Commentary

Georgia Boardman’s artistic practice stands out for its meticulous exploration of form, light, and materiality, with the circle at the core of her conceptual framework. This simple yet profound shape represents continuity, connection, and infinite potential, which she interprets through repetitive processes and evolving explorations. Boardman’s work transcends the mere act of creation, inviting viewers to engage with the transformation of materials—such as glass and metal—into dynamic, almost living entities that interact with light and space.

Boardman references the work of artists like Anish Kapoor, who also explores the interplay of material and perception, and Rachel Whiteread, who delves into the unseen spaces that objects and forms occupy. These influences are evident in Boardman’s ability to evoke deep contemplation through minimalistic yet powerful installations.

What makes Boardman a compelling emerging artist is her ability to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. Her art is not just about the final object, but about the process and the dialogue between the viewer, the material, and the surrounding space. Her innovative approach to displaying these materials, manipulating light, and her thoughtful engagement with the philosophical implications of form, positions her as an artist with a unique voice and a promising future in contemporary art.

Artist Statement

At the heart of my artistic exploration lies the circle: a shape that embodies infinite possibility, continuity, and connection. This elemental form serves as both muse and method, guiding my journey into the depths of materiality and the exploration of form and beauty. My work is a dialogue between the abstract and the tangible, where the circle acts as a lens through which my art practice evolves – exploring how this simple structure can be represented, interpreted and expressed.

My process is one of constant evolution, a process that leads to a series of repetitive explorations where each piece is both an answer and a question, each image serves as a pause in the infinite dialogue of creation. The act of making, of manipulating materials with my hands and tools, is central to my investigation. This process transforms into an intense exploration, not just of creation but of how each piece interacts with physical space. Through light, placement, and display, I examine how energies shift and meanings emerge.

Completing my art degree has further motivated me to build connections beyond my institution, working and immersing myself within established artists' studios, these environments have sharpened my skills and fuelled my growth. These experiences have fuelled my consistent drive to work and think about my own practice, embracing the circle as a continual journey to realise my artistic vision. By seizing opportunities and pushing boundaries within my practice, I pursue this journey to establish a presence in today’s art world.
