Dylan Leddington’s work is centred by a fascination with the decay and dereliction of both objects and architecture, focusing on them as lasting evidence of human activity. His mastery of the coloured pencil and aptitude for oil paint are evident throughout his work, allowing him to channel escapist tendencies into beautifully rich scenes of vibrant detail that rival the textures and patinas of real life. Asking us to consider the abandonment of the places and tools that we interact with on a daily basis, Leddington ponders how in the future these forgotten articles will yearn to be utilised once again.
I am an Birmingham based visual artist, a graduate of Arts University Bournemouth. I find the world around me of great interest and have a drive to capture it through the mediums of paint and pencil. Drawing and painting has allowed me to document my new surroundings and escape when I have needed to. I am drawn to the abandoned, disused, and forgotten places around our planet, focusing on spaces that once served a function or have remnants of human life long gone. I am using present day dilapidated architecture to encourage thoughts of possible futures where the spaces we inhabit may end up in a similar state. Linking to wider contexts of the Anthropocene and Futurism.
