Curating art is a curious process.. that feels like a dialogue between the artworks and the space in which they live. When I look through works – whether on the website or in the flesh – I often encounter pairings and groups that naturally complement each other, seeming to have an unspoken understanding between them, a shared energy, working together to create a new relationship..
It’s like when you bring together different ideas, and a third perspective emerges.. Sometimes, putting two pieces together opens up a new way of seeing the whole.
It can sound unusual when we speak about how artworks communicate, how the pieces relate to one another – the energy they co-create together. That’s the essence of curating: considering how each element of the room connects with the other and the overall whole, to create the atmosphere you want to live in.
Curating art is like putting together a group of people for a gathering. You think about how they’ll communicate, the energy each will bring. Will they share a common vibe, or will their contrasts create an exciting energy? Each piece, when placed with intention, can shift the entire conversation of the room.
In this section I’ve curated some pairings and small groupings.. considering how their relationship together creates cohesion and communication.
