It’s easy, when browsing the website or reading newsletters, to miss the subtle complexities and layers of meaning that fine artists bring to their work. Each artist we select works at a particular level, with a deep commitment to their practice and a unique vision.
Clementine Eastwood’s Slay Your Dragon (Part One) is a phenomenal example of this. What creates a standout artist is their unique vision – and Clementine’s work embodies that fully. In the gallery world, it’s all too common to encounter pieces that vaguely resemble someone else’s work. But not here. Not with Clementine. Her work is a completely unique vision, and that is what makes a great artist truly investable.
The only thing that playfully echoes another contemporary art figure is her profile photo, where she wields what looks like a machine gun in the same way Banksy subverts expectations in his graffiti paintings. But her artwork itself stands entirely on its own, with an originality that speaks to her rare talent.
This morning, I’m sharing reflections on Slay Your Dragon (Part One) as a way of giving this extraordinary piece, and the artist behind it, the time and considered focus their work deserves. You can view the video via YouTube.
