Hardwick demonstrates a naturalistic technique that exhibits her female subjects in their rawest - imperfectly perfect state.
Drawing inspiration from "Dutch and Flemish painters", it is conceivable that Hardwick found creative resonance and inspiration in the work of Flemish contemporary artist, Michaël Borremans. Of Belgian origin, Borremans gained notoriety for his lifelike depictions of somewhat unnerving portraits. Both artists can be seen using fluid brush-strokes which create a textural softness – adding an ingenious layer to an uncanny narrative. Also comparable, are the artists’ use of hyper-realistic colour creating a sense that they are not quite photographs, yet are more real somehow than a painting… Hardwick is a fine emerging artist indeed.
