New Blood Art Commentary

There’s something quietly intoxicating about the palette Yiwen Liu reaches for. Sherbet pistachio. Veiled turquoise. Maroon that leans into plum. Each tone feels like a memory with the volume turned up - precise, heightened, and still tender.

These are pastels with depth. They don’t drift. They hold. Mood-drenched and luminous, they carry a kind of emotional calibration - colours that feel emotionally exact, drawn from somewhere real, internal, lived.

Yiwen’s practice is rooted in the ephemeral - moments of memory, tenderness, and emotional undercurrent. Her paintings centre vessels, surfaces, and fragments - forms that feel like containers for what can’t be fully spoken. Each work holds a moment at the edge of vanishing. Not to preserve it, but to honour its passing.

There is clarity in this restraint - and strength. These are paintings that transmit. Quietly powerful, emotionally intelligent, and aesthetically rare.

There are currently nine oil-on-linen paintings available, all priced under £5,000. This is the kind of work serious collectors are watching - beautiful to live with, significant to hold.

Artist Statement

My fluid abstractions emerge from fleeting moments and emotional undercurrents, shaped by quiet introspection and memory. I seek to create compositions that unfold gently, where color dissolves into atmosphere and presence mingles with absence. Each brushstroke becomes a dialogue exploring impermanence, where the personal becomes universal.

I embrace emotion as layered and shifting: joy and sorrow, intimacy and solitude, mirroring one another. Rooted in Daoist thought, my work finds strength in softness and clarity through ambiguity. My paintings inhabit the in-between, giving form to subtle, often unnamed feelings. Through abstraction, I invite viewers into a space of emotional resonance and reflection.
