I am an artist living and working in the North East of England. Using oil paint as my primary medium, my work embodies a classical quality, with influences from the symbolism of the Pre-Raphaelites to the brushwork of John Singer Sargent. I add a contemporary edge by engaging with current socio-political themes, predominantly around the role and status of women, examined through visions of nature, mythology and allegory. My practice currently focuses on the concept of ‘the feminine sublime’, and as a result my paintings often lure you in as a participant rather than a viewer, possessing a strong presence within the room.
