In light of the government’s retraining quiz, we’ve decided to start a series foregrounding those artists defiantly persisting with their creative ventures. ‘Still an Artist’ is a show of support for art-heads everywhere, giving you an insight into the lives of our artists, as we meet them where they’re at…
We start by highlighting artist Lewis Deeney. Lewis has been selected as one of eight outstanding 2020 graduates across the UK to receive the prestigious Freelands Painting Prize. His painting “Our Equilibrium” is currently on exhibition till mid-December in the Freelands Foundation space, based in London’s Regent’s Park. He’s also received the William Sangster Phillips award and full funding from the University of Dundee, allowing him to continue his Fine Art studies at masters level. Collector Jane Eccles recently acquired a piece of Lewis’ work through us, commenting:
“Modern Man II has just arrived safely and has surpassed my expectations. It is a very special piece.” – Jane Eccles
His work is rooted in unifying chaos with order, a philosophical confrontation staged through sensuous painterly techniques that push up against hard-edged geometric forms. Mandala symbols meet expressionism, in work that reminds us both of Frank Stella’s geometric abstractions, and Jasper John’s infamous use of symbols to refocus viewers on painterly lushness. We couldn’t be more excited about this young artist, and invite you to take a look at some of his work featured on our site.
