Speaking about her work, Mapes states:

“In a desire to be truthful about the reality of my new life, I have fully embraced the idea of play in relation to my paintings and sculptures. Recent works celebrate the realness, messiness, colour, brightness, boldness, joy, sadness, loneliness and dangers of parenthood”.

This year has been another memorable one for New Blood Artists. Both in Britain and internationally, there is much to celebrate. This spans renowned art prizes, publications, museum shows, and commercial exhibitions. As the emerging artists’ practices develop, so does the scope of the opportunities landed. 

Graduate Sophie Lloyd has been chosen as the first recipient of the Anthony Caro Sculpture Prize.

Congratulations to both David Rae and Edward Jones who have both been shortlisted for the Gilchrst-Fisher Award 2024. This is a notable achievement with previous winners of the prize including Peter Doig, Alasdair Wallace and Angela Hughes.
