{"id":19154,"date":"2020-10-27T22:45:13","date_gmt":"2020-10-27T22:45:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newbloodart.com\/blog\/?p=19154"},"modified":"2025-06-15T17:51:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-15T16:51:42","slug":"still-an-artist-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newbloodart.com\/blog\/still-an-artist-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Still An Artist #1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>In light of the government&#8217;s retraining quiz, we\u2019ve decided to start a series foregrounding those artists defiantly persisting with their creative ventures. \u2018Still an Artist\u2019 is a show of support for art-heads everywhere, giving you an insight into the lives of our artists, as we meet them where they\u2019re at\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We start by highlighting artist&nbsp;Lewis&nbsp;Deeney.&nbsp; Lewis&nbsp;has been selected as one of eight outstanding 2020 graduates across the UK to receive the prestigious Freelands Painting Prize. His painting \u201cOur Equilibrium\u201d is currently on exhibition till mid-December in the Freelands Foundation space, based in London\u2019s Regent\u2019s Park. He\u2019s also received the William Sangster Phillips award and full funding from the University of Dundee, allowing him to continue his Fine Art studies at masters level.&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/newbloodart.us4.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=ffecd1f834554e31e40cbf034&amp;id=57cd4cd9a1&amp;e=93fc195f0a\" target=\"_blank\">Collector Jane Eccles<\/a>&nbsp;recently acquired a piece of&nbsp;Lewis&#8217; work through us, commenting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>&#8220;Modern Man II has just arrived safely and has surpassed my expectations. It is a very special piece.&#8221; &#8211; Jane Eccles<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His work is rooted in unifying chaos with order, a philosophical confrontation staged through sensuous painterly techniques that push up against hard-edged geometric forms. Mandala symbols meet expressionism, in work that reminds us both of Frank Stella\u2019s geometric abstractions, and Jasper John\u2019s infamous use of symbols to refocus viewers on painterly lushness.
