Ed Saye: Dystopia.\u00a0 Melancholy.\u00a0 Nostalgia.\u00a0 Idealism.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ed Saye&#8217;s exhibition &#8216;No Promised Land&#8217;\u00a0 at The Foundry Gallery in London showcases a new series of paintings focusing on the architecture of idealism.\u00a0 These works originate from found photographic images of Modernist houses falling into disrepair and the makeshift homes of hippie communities.\u00a0 While these two styles of architecture seem to lie at the furthermost points from each other, both implied that utopian idylls could be fabricated, at least in part, through architecture.\u00a0 Each of Saye&#8217;s paintings offers a different version of these fading idylls, a lament for the utopian ideals of either living through Modernist values &#8211; buildings as machines for living &#8211; or in hippie communes, living off the land &#8211; simply off-grid.<br id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481274445710_7479\" \/><br id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1481274445710_7480\" \/><em>\u2018These images all have a sense, but not more than that, of something that was or could be there.\u2019 &#8211; Aaron Betsky in his essay Limbo Architecture: Painters of Modernism.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a great time to invest in Ed Saye&#8217;s work with oustanding original paintings available from \u00a3175.
