A Hand tinted stone lithograph on Somerset paper.
Limited edition of 10.
"This is part of a series generated through research into caves; their different folklores, the specimens found there and their man made equivalents. Here a group of swimmers bob around a pool inside a snow globe, surrounded by a dark forest with swarms of birds, or butterflies, or snow overhead. This dark blue lithographic imprint comes from a drawing etched onto stone that combines watery tones with crayon and inky textures to create a rich variety of tones. It is then hand tinted with luminescent ink highlights. This hand tinting process means that no each print has subtle differences."
Enlisting a spectrum of natural phenomenon spiralled together with hints of folklore, Natasha Russell’s work creates a dynamic and fascinating impact. Through detailed drawings and intricate printmaking Russell explores hidden depths of the landscapes around us. Each piece eludes to absorbing mythos whilst adopting influence from organic structures; These realms interact convincingly throughout the works to provide a dialogue between culture and environment. Swirling through caverns and reaching through forests, using blossoming lines to describe an interaction between the immediate landscape and the imagined. The monochrome and limited palettes of natural hues soothe the dexterous quality of each piece and lend an evasive curiosity that keeps viewers engaged.
