Oiginal painting in acrylic on board.
"A landscape imagined with the individual at the core, enveloped entirely by the environment in all its centripetal force. Acrylic on board."
These subtly coloured but dynamic landscapes have a robust and painterly quality. Rob Lyon has successfully combined impressionistic forms from the surroundings with buildings and panoramic views. These create satisfying and beautifully composed paintings that work in an abstract way or as evocative views, often of well-loved places such as Hampstead Heath and the South Downs. Lyon expertly manipulates tone and harmonious colour in a seemingly effortless manner. The results are sometimes reminiscent of Eric Ravillious and of Mid Century Painters such as Sutherland and Nicholson and the late landscapes of Edward Burra. These paintings have the added benefit of a rhythmic quality that means they will work extremely well in many classic and contemporary home settings. Lyon’s other paintings have a more chiselled, faceted form, with tonal shapes sweeping across the canvas chronicling civilisation’s impact on our landscape.
