"I paint places where I have a connection either personal or through ideas that interest me. I use the place to explore these thoughts from historical references to the process of painting itself. JMW Turner's connection to Margate is a specific interest as well as the reference to Margate in TS Eliot's 'Wasteland' - "On Margate Sands. I can connect Nothing with nothing". The way we look at the landscape determines how we understand and internalise it".
