Original drawing in pencil on paper.
Duffy's semi-realistic drawings of human figures are isolated onto a page and intentionally placed under full and intense speculation from the viewer. He tries to establish an emotional reaction in the viewer in order for them to empathise with the subject and interpret from the character what they will.
Out of Niki Duffy’s monochromatic pages comes a subtle essence, a transient moment of delicate youthfulness. Intimate and frank, Duffy pencils models caught in playful poise. With clarity, he advances the nervous energy found in the work of Egon Schiele and Robert Longo, showing adoration of his subjects and offering us an opportunity to partake in their distanced contemplation.
