Original drawing in graphite on watercolour paper.
"Drawing taken from a series in which the google search results for the phrase 'grieving woman' are taken and rendered in pencil."
With a number of prestigious exhibitions already under her belt, and a recent graduate of the Prince's Drawing School, Kathryn Lloyd's intense observations challenge the foundations of both life drawing and still life. The macabre blurring of boundaries between the two draws a clinical metaphor, in which Lloyd's studies of the body become detached from the lives they hold, or once, if ever, held.
References to old masters Botticelli, Caravaggio and Il Bronzino, as well as current photojournalism lead to the contemplation of the powerful use of the body in imagery.
