A duality of layers appears in Oskarsson’s large and tempestuous canvases. Their surfaces carry a tense underlying materiality that at once fractures yet combines their abstract play of colours. Her complex transformation of materials indicates her interest in chemistry, one that advances Jackson Pollock’s alchemical philosophy.

Artist Statement

The materials play a central role in my work. I employ mostly non-traditional materials and processes within the parameters of 'painting'. I incorporate Chemistry to a large extent and attempt to develop the work through experimenting with the materials that I use, this often means accessing expertise from the scientific disciplines and discovering materials that are still being developed in the field of Chemistry. Based on nature’s forces and dynamism, the work is largely concerned with nature’s affinity with reclaiming what belongs to it. It focuses on the ‘slow burn’ that occurs in all living things and their surroundings. Through the materials and processes, the paintings seek to explore both nature’s recurring patterns and random mutations. It alludes to how lasting and beneficial change comes about by slow and small degrees, a principle that seems to be congenial to life in general.
