Painting is my means of exploring and connecting to the visual world and communicating to others the feelings it arouses. Enjoyment of light, colour, form and atmosphere move me to paint. My prefered subjects are everyday objects or scenes. In still life, working with simple compositions focuses my attention on the beauty of each individual object. Whilst my still lifes are painted solely from life, my landscapes and urban scenes refer to a combination of studies from life, photographs, memory and imagination. Working from memory and imagination in particular helps me to distill the essence of what inspired me to paint the scene.
