New Blood Art Commentary

Neve Clarke is a Fine Artist who works between Bristol and Cornwall.  Graduating with a First Class degree in Fine Art from Falmouth University in 2021, she specialises in printmaking. In 2022 she was awarded a place on the Cultivator graduate start up programme. Neve has shown across Cornwall at Grays Wharf , The Fish Factory, Potager Gardens, Porthmeor Studios and Tate St Ives. She is currently represented by NewBloodArt and sells her work internationally.

Clarke produces detailed etchings, where the physicality of the marks on the metal plates are imbued with the artist's own emotional and psychological experiences.  The organic subjects chosen are metaphorical and allegorical, allowing a space for unhindered and vulnerable exploration of personal lived experience. The works that result are delicate and complex ,characterised by monochromatic fine lines and detail in the natural objects that are their subjects, to evoke vast and complex universes.

‘It is clear that with each rich line of the etching needle, Clarke is talking with her subject matter, trying to understand it by visually describing it. It is, I think, a beautiful way to consider what an artist is: a translator of particles of carbon into a vocabulary which can be understood.’ (Kate Reeve-Edwards for Cultural Capital Arts).
