New Blood Art Statement

A texture-rich and vibrant collection of intriguing patterns and fascinating subjects; Neil Kellas’ artwork is a unique observation of human interaction and the kinesis of our urban surroundings.

A graduate of Gray’s School of Art, Kellas has been shortlisted for a number of competitions - and his work is as individual as it is inspired. Take for example, ’Mcd’, which boasts  a fabulous cacophony of violet, mint, aquamarine, and fuchsia spray paint. Layered in whimsical whorls the line-work is said to denote the path of flight and the overall effect is sensational.

Artist Statement

My practice explores the subconscious mind creating a visual dialogue that is representative of existence, space and place. This comes around through gathered information, drawings and prose from explorations both urban and rural. Through this I use the integrity of shape, form and line expressively to inform the work and create suggestion towards the abstraction of human interaction and human relationship with the landscape. Colour, motifs and language are all used to convey concept but it’s my key importance not to overpower the image, leaving room for personal reflection and encounter. Emotion plays a big part in my work and is conveyed through use of colour and texture to try and translate on a more universal level of personal understanding
