New Blood Art Statement

It is impossible to separate Madeleine Peters’s work from the vast and ancient countryside that inspires it - Somerset’s Isles of Avalon. Peters’s sensitivity to the natural beauty of the area, particularly the subtle shifts in seasonal light, results in moving abstracts that capture the essence of eternal geographies. Her use of colour and texture taps into the poignancy of our interaction with nature, how often its timeless workings are imbued with personal emotions and meaning. The Isle itself is permeated with mysticality; in Celtic mythology the land towering above the Somerset Levels is said to link to another world. Peters mindfully depicts the rich agricultural area in all its dramatic transformations, casting viewers both up into the ether and down to earth.

Artist Statement

I am a Somerset based artist living in the Isles of Avalon, close to Glastonbury. My inspiration is drawn from the outstanding natural beauty of this ancient countryside, it’s woodlands, wetlands, ethereal mists and the apricot sunset as falls across these Summerlands. My signature is that of abstract landscape which reflects an emotive attunement to sense of place. My work observes the ever- shifting patterns of light and seasonal colours of the eternal moment. This involves a complete and mindful response to memories, thoughts and the movement of time as they echo within the landscape. This particular body of work has evolved from last Winters watery narrative and it’s dramatic transformation of the Somerset Levels, capturing the temporary faces of its ebbs and flows.
