Cut trees and trained hedges depict a sharp contrast between their organic movement and the control and power we hold over them. My work explores the impact we have on our surroundings and the actions we take in order to manipulate and domesticise nature. I closely observe the design and architectural aspects of outdoor spaces, and it is this narrative of systemisation over such a complex and autonomous force that I try to communicate through my work.
My colour palette is influenced by art movements such as fauvism, abstract expressionism and pop art. My main choice of medium is oil pastels and oil bars because of their strong pigments, but also because they give me a sense of freedom and playfulness that painting sometimes does not. For references i use a mix of life and photographs, sometimes merging features of multiples spaces together to create a fictional environment.
