New Blood Art Commentary

Photographer Karin Wright beautifully captures gleaming luminescence through optical ingenuity. Her command of the lens and mastery of digital skill is clearly and strongly felt in each of her works, as trails of light, areas of shadow and indeterminate forms work together in harmonious composition. Her ethereal productions intend to capture scenic durations in a single image, creating a connection between the lived experiences of both artist and onlooker. In this way, Wright conveys how the visual realm extends beyond the physical as the glow of illumination may be used to breathe life into the commonplace.

Artist Statement

I examine notions of the everyday, explicitly the passing of time. I contemplate neurodiversity and how individuals respond to ever-changing conditions. I use imagery as a language to show how our visual senses can be responsible for specific reactions to what is happening around us. I am enamoured by the presence of light, how it illustrates various feelings and perhaps offers a sculptural form to what is not of any physicality but harnesses the ability to alter the ambiance of the space. Likewise, I respect how light is a representation of time passed. There is satisfaction in discovering and appreciating the beauty in monotony, whether it be a new form or feeling of insight. I make work in response to everything that surrounds me as everywhere holds an opportunity. The outcome a collection of abstract images that are a combination of digital paintings and photography.
