Graduation Year: 2018
My work is about feeling strange, feeling guilt and regret, hope and temptation. It is about the confusion of doing right or wrong and making choices of good and bad. It formulates through tale and allegory representing universal feelings in a constructed narrative with influences from religion and fable. Recurring images become visual clues, animals become characters, landscapes become crafted settings and food and commonplace objects become symbols. Natural features form a force in my work, humorous but uneasy. Characters interweave throughout and interact with one another on a journey to good or bad. I use painting and drawing to explore and record ideas and scenes, primarily in gouache and ink on paper. I have also worked with film and objects, both large scale and miniature. My work aims to entice and be familiar to the viewer, whilst unnerving, mysterious and confusing.
