Artist Statement

I am interested in depicting the human body, both the outside and internal surfaces and forms, playing with the line between representation and abstraction. I work mainly sculpturally contrasting casted for against sculpted surface focusing on creating an attraction or a recognition from the audience and on occasion engaging in the senses. I frequently present imagery that suggests intimacy or attraction and often plays with repetition and pattern from natural occurring forms. The process is important in my practise and leaving trace of artist, material and method is a vital part of the work. Often using a vast range of materials (such as clay, plaster, steel, expanding foam, pigments, silicone, jesmonite, latex) to build a form. Although sculpture is paramount to my practise, there is a relationship that has evolved between my paintings, photography and sculpture. There is conversation and a merging back and forth between the different mediums which makes room for development and growth in my practise.
