I am a Scottish painter and printmaker with studios in both Inverness Shire and Aberdeen, Scotland. My practice and style favours openness. It demonstrates a strong sense of energy, risk taking and most importantly, passion of process. My work is fuelled by my imagination and drive to create something that comes effortlessly from within. I like to move my materials around, block in areas, get things going. I usually listen to music when painting and react quickly to whatever marks are being shaped. Over time the work is highly built up, using acrylic along with a range of other materials at hand. The work evolves and changes in the space it inhabits. When painting, I make choices from moment to moment and second by second; knowing when to stop and not over-paint is a major factor in my work. My colour palette comes from a selection of interests, including a variety of Scandinavian interiors and also Japanese bathroom culture and themes. Soft lines and simple, calming pastels have a huge influence on my practice. Light and texture come to play, as I feel they bring both depth and atmosphere into my works. I like to use simple forms and aesthetically engaging compositions. The fine balance of these three elements creates the essential pillars for my artwork to stand upon.
