New Blood Art Statement

With his dark, charred shanty towers, Christopher Jenkins conjures a post-apocalyptic world. His models, crafted from scrap metal and obsolete tools depict a world where modernist advancements in technology and society have failed, culture returning to a tribal, primitive and philistine age. Rusting and empty, these buildings are remnants of human activity, spaces hastily constructed and quickly abandoned. With elements of science fiction, Jenkins casts a postmodernist critique and examination of our culture, marking an emotional and psychological overview of our ideas of shelter and infrastructure.

Artist Statement

I work in Painting, Sculpture, installation and public artworks My intention is to invite the viewer to explore a personal vein of narrative and trigger an emotional interaction or imagined memory through these works, as well as present my own preoccupation with human activity, vanity and the relentless moving of time. Desolate shells of buildings and abandoned rigs feature in my sculpture, which are then brought to life in my paintings through impossibly colourful towers and Imagined landscapes. I am interested in what came before and is now absent, the emptiness after activity and above all the celebration of the loss of these moments as the people and places involved constantly change. We imagine a reason for them to exist and in turn we hope to be imagined one day.
