About New Blood Art

New Blood Art was founded in 2004 by Fine Art graduate and art tutor, Sarah Ryan. She had a vision to provide emerging artists with an income from their work and the general public access to truly affordable art. Whilst at art college, after spending hours in the life drawing studio, she would go to work, in a bar or retail space to subsidise her studies and began to wonder if it might be possible for young artists to create a revenue stream from their artwork... 

in 1998 Ryan was invited to teach art in Botswana. When she returned the world had changed. Everyone was online. The Internet provided the missing piece, making it possible to promote young artists and their art at affordable prices, something that the costs of running a physical gallery space made an impossibility. Ryan says that if she had not been immersed in an entirely different world for so long, she would not have been struck by the potential opportunity in quite the same way, or with such force. And so New Blood Art began… as a labour of love, visiting colleges, speaking to tutors, identifying talented artists who might not otherwise have had an opportunity to launch their careers.

“My favourite part of the job is visiting the colleges and studios and meeting the artists. I look for the very best artists emerging from the colleges, using the best materials and techniques and I get to know them personally. I am highly selective and have gained a good reputation for spotting artists who go onto to do very well. It’s wonderful seeing their careers develop - and in some cases sky-rocket - some of my personal ‘success stories’ are Iain Andrews, Josie McCoy, Nathan James and Dan McDermott who all started showcasing their work on the website and whose prices went on to triple in value within a year.”
