Thieves!

I’m text-only today as the little “add image” button’s gone and I can’t for the life of me find it. I updated my flickr today though with images of Miriam, my super-new painting, if you fancy some new images that is.

Last night I was indulging in one of my most unappealing habits, namely, googling myself… I was looking for information on a charity exhibition/sale I made a painting for (Bhopal Medical Appeal, Skullduggerous, opening tonight!), but instead found that a Chinese site is offering my work for sale. I have read about this type of thing before; last year the Independent ran this article on Welsh artist, Mandy Wilkinson, and it quite horrified me.

Knowing what to do next is another matter entirely as I know for a fact that legal and copyright infringement threats will come to nothing, so should I watermark all my images? That would be a mammoth undertaking as I spend a lot of time spreading myself and my work about the Internet and also, I think watermarked images look pretty naff. I did a bit of digging and found where they’d lifted the images from and have since removed myself from that site. I worry that this will not be enough though, as they know my name and anyone with half a brain would just google “Georgina Vinsun”. I know that in the grand scheme of things this is a little trivial to be worrying about, it just hurts a little as my paintings can be pretty personal. At least they don’t have Dee, or Celestine, or Róisín… They mean the most at present!
