Still busting…

Here’s a bad res copy of another of the series that I’m currently working on – it’s the crossover work from one series to a new one, there’s probably lots of things that could be said about why I chose these hanging garments as motive. Mostly I paint them because they intrigue me. Oh, also because I find them really, really very difficult to paint – there’s a lot of sorting out of priorities from an observational and technical standpoint and the hierarchies of decisions that go into making these works is not something that the viewer can immediately discern, however, it fascinates me. When I look at works, I try to think about the formal qualities first – the enthusiasm and excitement in seeing a nice piece seems to be heightened if I have a grip on what I’m actually looking at and how I’m seeing it.

Thanks for your sweet comments, Sarah. I’m adding internal frames to my work just for the pleasure of it – however the frames add more of a sense of theatre to the work. Just playing, really.

Hi Shaun, have really been enjoying your blog posts. Do the garments you paint have a history for you, or are they anonymous pieces you come across? Have many more questions for you in the Newbloodart post http://newbloodart.com/blog/the-cap-and-bells/
