Some time last year I decided my mind was full of huge knowledge gaps art-wise and so, on impulse, I bought a subscription to ArtReview. This wasn’t the best idea, it was more a waste of money as each time an issue gets delivered I leaf through it, look at the pictures, and then put it to one side and don’t read any of it, except the bit Matthew Collings writes. I actually think I hate ArtReview! I was never any good at reading that sort of thing, my mind instantly begins to drift the moment my eyes hit the text. How I ever managed any essays for my degree is beyond me… I was actually quite good at paraphrasing text, not that I was supposed to have been doing that, and used to sit at my computer fitting together chunks of my dissertation whilst supping on this amazing beer called Hen’s Tooth.

The painting shown here is a work in progress, 100 x 130 cm. I am warming to it.

i’m with you, i often feel i should wade through the trade mags. like i should call my mother more or keep ahead of my taxes. but i think time is better spent living.

love your clouds, like a look at heaven.

Me too! The magazines are full of gallery adverts, which are probably the most interesting part of the magazine. I find the articles a chore. I used to subscribe, but gave up a few years ago. Then I tried Modern Painters, which is significantly better, but still not great.. what we need is a good magazine

I absolutely agree. i often feel guilty that I’m not more interested in reading about art – but in essence I feel that making and looking at it are much more interesting and pleasurable. really like your work as well btw….

Hello there! Quite disagree with you. I love Art Review especially the online version with videos. Ok, you have to wait one month before to read the new one, but there is some good subjects to read. For the ads, it keeps me up to date with the last exhibitions/artists.

Ha ha! Just found all these comments and I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t seem to read the articles! Nathalie, I’m glad you like them though and I agree that their site is very good, I enjoy tapping about there much more than wading through the magazine..
