Hello, my name’s Georgie. I think I’d better introduce myself a little, seeing as how I’ll probably pop up a fair bit on this blog and as it’s not mine alone, an introduction makes sense.
I’m a painter who graduated from Loughborough 5 years ago with a degree in Fine Art. I desperately wanted to go on to do an MA at the time, but didn’t know where and frankly, I don’t think I was ready for one. Post-uni I immediately went to work in catering, my holiday job since forever… I’m still there today although more from a fear of leaving and truly embracing Being an Artist – I like the certainty of my pay packet you see. Alongside my paintings I make artist books and do a fair bit of drawing.
I began writing my own blog in 2007, mainly because my Dad thought my website was too honest, almost unprofessionally so. I needed a place to let off steam really, as I was horribly unhappy at work and felt like being a painter was an uphill struggle that I was losing. The blog was a way of rationalising my thoughts on everything and a space to reflect and to occasionally slag off open exhibitions I’d not got my work into! I won’t be doing that here, ha, I stopped entering most of them! What I will be writing about here will be varied, not too long and will probably feature lots of images of works in progress and such.
