So, what’s this post all about then? Well, I’ve been rather quiet of late so I thought I’d share a little of what I’ve been up to. Not that I’ve been idle or anything, perhaps devoting a little too much time to knitting, but we all need our hobbies don’t we? Knitting aside, we finally decorated our bedroom, which was previously the vilest shade of pink I have ever seen. Then I hung Mildred opposite the window. It is the perfect spot for her, I could honestly never imagine painting over Mildred – very unusual for me… It is so, so nice sitting in bed and looking at the piece.

The middle image is currently in progress in the studio and might be titled Ursula, I haven’t quite decided yet.

This little one has been in limbo while I decide whether it has the remotest chance of being selected for the Discerning Eye and whether I waste my money and time submitting it.. I don’t know exactly why I fancy that show so much but I really like the idea of it.

well done on the re-paint – nice to see Mildred in situ. I’ve been thinking about your paintings a lot lately – there have been some amazing dusk sky-scapes the last few weeks – and I so get why these are constantly inspiring you… what are you knitting?

I’m knitting two dresses. Everyone always pulls a face when I tell them that but they’re knitting up really quickly. I’m ever so slightly addicted to knitting.
We’ve had a lot of rain up here and I’ve been enjoying watching the layers of cloud, especially when the rain stops.

Hi Georgie,
What’s the idea behind the Discerning Eye exhibition?

By the way, I love Erin and what you’ve written about it. To get something that is both so ephemeral and real into a painting reminds me why art is something to be grateful for.

Also, I am so intrigued by you giving your paintings names as titles. But perhaps it’s not something you feel should be explained?

You’re knitting 2 dresses! Wow! I know what you mean about being ever so slightly addicted to knitting… I started a scarf a little while ago and ended up with practically a bedspread! Just couldn’t stop… do these dresses have sleeves? I’d love to see a picture – somehow the layering and building up of knitting is somehwhat similar to cloudscapes I think…

They do indeed have sleeves, I’ll slip a photo in with my next blog perhaps!
My sister did the same as you when she knitted a scarf… It’s huge! There’s something so satisfying about the process of knitting, I can’t put my finger on it.

Hi Soraya,

Couldn’t reply to the comments in order.
Anyway, I sat and thought for ages about my paintings’ descriptions and the one for Nia and Erin was my favourite and is actually true of many of my works, well, as I look at them anyway. I’m gald you understand.
In answer to the paintings’ names, I began naming them simply as a means of knowing which was which and for the most part they’re not named after anyone. They’re a mixture of names I like and Eddie Stobart lorries I’ve spotted. I love Eddie Stobart lorries!

Oh, and the Discerning Eye? I didn’t do it.

I agree – very satisfying. I think I find it kind of calming in a repetitive/comforting way… it has a pace and recurring noise that soothes… and as a bonus something is manufactured to represent the period of meditation… love it. Must get my needles out and please do post a picture. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who gets carried away!

Giving them proper names is a great way of distinguishing between them, I also like the way you don’t rely on words at all, not even before the final outcome of the painting it seems. It’s really brave.

I wish you hadn’t said that about Eddie Stobart lorries…we have spent years travelling up and down the M1 playing the Eddie Stobart game. Now I will be trying to match the names to your paintings!
I too want to see a picture of your dresses as am also a secret knitter. In fact I used to knit pictures…….hmmmm (wanders off to see if they are still in the old portfolio)
