Reenie

Sometimes I like this piece and sometimes I think it looks as though it could have been painted by any number of people. It’s hanging on the wall at the moment to see if it passes “the wall test”.

Vegging out

I like the Americans and their funny phrases and the way they call their arse their butt. I’ve had this week off work, to get a show hung and also to “veg out” a bit. Delivering work for the show was a bit manic as they phoned me once I’d got home requesting more work. [...]

Gordon

Here are a couple of pictures of a new piece I thought was turning into some sort of cartoon reef for a while. It’s named Peggy and measures 50 x 100 cm. Oh and it’s a diptych, that’s not just a wonky line I painted down the middle… I’ll get the tripod out tomorrow.. Anyway, [...]

Frogspawn

I was in a foul mood yesterday evening because of an email from a gallery assistant, basically insinuating that I was deliberately messing her around. All she wanted was an image list and because of their archaic system, she was unable to open the attachment each time I tried to send it. Then I forgot [...]

Sitting

I’ve been sitting in front of these on and off all week, I’ve been ill but there’s always that feeling I should be doing something. Was supposed to be working on a commission, but it’s to be like an older piece and I find that really difficult to do so I end up doing other [...]

Shows

I’ve been a little off-kilter this week because I have to plan for an exhibition I have in a month’s time. The guys running the space want me to write them a list of works I will be showing…. Sounds simple? It should be, but I just can’t decide what I want to show and [...]

Crocodiles

I spend a lot of time looking at paintings online, in books and in catalogues.. I’m slightly addicted to it and spend lots of time on re-title.com, Newbloodart and the big painting prize websites, just looking at the shortlists and googling the artists. I find it fascinating seeing the different paths people take to get [...]

Thieves!

I’m text-only today as the little “add image” button’s gone and I can’t for the life of me find it. I updated my flickr today though with images of Miriam, my super-new painting, if you fancy some new images that is. Last night I was indulging in one of my most unappealing habits, namely, googling [...]

Nice to meet you!

Hello, my name’s Georgie. I think I’d better introduce myself a little, seeing as how I’ll probably pop up a fair bit on this blog and as it’s not mine alone, an introduction makes sense. I’m a painter who graduated from Loughborough 5 years ago with a degree in Fine Art. I desperately wanted to [...]

New Blood Art Blog

Welcome to our blog. This is a space where you can find observations, thoughts, considerations and information - voiced in a personal way - from the perspectives of our artists, and from each other. Making art can sometimes be a lonely practice, particularly for artists who are starting out. Our artists very much value your comments about the artwork they exhibit on Newbloodart, as well as the opportunity to build a relationship with you. So please feel free to respond briefly or at length to whatever you find here.*

Our artists use this space to write about everything from the frustrations of work; exhibits that inspire; radio programmes enjoyed; technical problems to be resolved; difficult decisions about what to show, and just when a piece can or must be called finished. They sometimes use it to publicize exhibitions and talks; to publicly resist the need for a consistent style; to make unusual analogies, comparisons and connections (and, occasionally, to make embarrassing admissions). Click on the artists below to follow their strands.

We look forward to reading what you think.
