Folkestone Triennial

I’ve recently visited the 2011 Folkestone Triennial titled A Million Miles From Home and really recommend it for a visit before it closes on 25th September. I liked the sense of adventure, map in hand, finding the art works and exploring the town. Cristina Iglesia’s Towards the Sound of Wilderness, a mirrored box like structure [...]

Fantastic book on the Art world

A friend gave me Sarah Thornton’s book Seven Days in the Art World and I cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone interested in art and how the international art world functions. It covers her research and experiences with curators and collectors, the Venice Bienalle, art auctions, studio visits and much more. Well worth as [...]

I just had a look at this short film - Western Spaghetti Dir. PES, US, 2008 and it’s a fantastic piece of art – really recommend a look.  http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/dec/19/short-films-documentary-animation-viral?INTCMP=SRCH. The information below is from the guardian article.  “The internet is an intimate venue,” says Adam Pesapane, a 36-year-old New Jersey film-maker who makes short, smart, stop-motion animations [...]

Catherine Jacobs New Blog

The New Blood Art blog is a great idea and I’m pleased to post my first contribution here. I’m currently balancing my fine art career with looking after my toddler and consultancy psychology work – this works for me by taking a fairly relaxed approach to what can be achieved. I‘ve still really enjoyed visiting [...]

New Blood Art Blog

Welcome to our blog. This is a space where you can find observations, thoughts, considerations and information - voiced in a personal way - from the perspectives of our artists, and from each other. Making art can sometimes be a lonely practice, particularly for artists who are starting out. Our artists very much value your comments about the artwork they exhibit on Newbloodart, as well as the opportunity to build a relationship with you. So please feel free to respond briefly or at length to whatever you find here.*

Our artists use this space to write about everything from the frustrations of work; exhibits that inspire; radio programmes enjoyed; technical problems to be resolved; difficult decisions about what to show, and just when a piece can or must be called finished. They sometimes use it to publicize exhibitions and talks; to publicly resist the need for a consistent style; to make unusual analogies, comparisons and connections (and, occasionally, to make embarrassing admissions). Click on the artists below to follow their strands.

We look forward to reading what you think.
