My Chatty Friend

I am trying to take a leaf out of Rebecca Fontain Wolf’s book I love her work and her name. My Chatty Friend 12×14 here is all strokes and brush marks. Slip slidey and messy with the hap hazard streaks of paint serendipitously depicting him. I am reminded of a riotous night out at a [...]

Gardening Leave

So after the great escapades at the studio, I have been on gardening leave. The flutter of morning doves and wild flower blossoms seemed just the medicine to blow over a little shooting. Things to do when not at the studio. Laundry, House work, Long walks, This is My Pink LA House. 16x14x2 acrylic on [...]

Time Delay

I brought together the images that stuck in my head. Plucked during walks, drunken times, moments of ordinary beauty, or just when I would unexpectedly find my camera at the bottom of my purse. Some photos of birthdays and special sights, some of everyday, the laundry and my Monday.

My Visual Coversation

So really the culmination of my last week of looking and making is best said with images than words. It is a visual debate: on the one side representing figures by interpretation and drawing; on the other side analog or photographic representation. Both are vying to tell a tale of being. The Break Up. This [...]

Been Counting

Sorry, I have been counting. The hard financial reality is that I have to make money. so now that the business of making money and selling houses is out of the way, I am free to ponder Fine Art again. It is nice to have these things in their place. I find something gratingly unpleasant [...]

The Language of Long Lingering Looks

As I have found particularly evident from using so much Skype lately, there is so much language outside of words

Time to be a Mom

In the studio, as the little baby slept like a contented kitten on the bed I created, I had just enough time to jump up and scribble and slather.

Art of Motherhood

I did get to experience all the different types of births that one can have. I got an epidural that worked on one side only. And the joys of lots of pushing followed by a cesarean. The general anesthetic was the cherry on the pie.

New Blood Art Blog

Welcome to our blog. This is a space where you can find observations, thoughts, considerations and information - voiced in a personal way - from the perspectives of our artists, and from each other. Making art can sometimes be a lonely practice, particularly for artists who are starting out. Our artists very much value your comments about the artwork they exhibit on Newbloodart, as well as the opportunity to build a relationship with you. So please feel free to respond briefly or at length to whatever you find here.*

Our artists use this space to write about everything from the frustrations of work; exhibits that inspire; radio programmes enjoyed; technical problems to be resolved; difficult decisions about what to show, and just when a piece can or must be called finished. They sometimes use it to publicize exhibitions and talks; to publicly resist the need for a consistent style; to make unusual analogies, comparisons and connections (and, occasionally, to make embarrassing admissions). Click on the artists below to follow their strands.

We look forward to reading what you think.
